STFC’s Accelerator Science and Technology Centre (ASTeC) mission is to build the ‘Big Science’ facilities of the future; we design, build and operate particle accelerators and make major contributions to many of the biggest projects in the world today, working with high-profile national and international partners. The Vacuum Solutions Group within ASTeC are looking for a vacuum process technician to work within our processing facility.

This interesting entry level role will provide exposure to practical experiences such as laboratory duties, mechanical assembly, plant/facility support, quality systems & health and safety, alongside building your personal skills in areas such as teamwork, networking, communication and listening.

Essential:  

• Minimum of 5 GCSE with at least a C in Science and Maths, or equivalent; 
• Evidence of practical aptitude, ability to do ‘hands on’ tasks including mechanical assembly;
• Experience of following specific work procedures to complete tasks and documenting progress as the task proceeds ;
• Evidence of good organising ability such as scheduling, workflow and prioritising;
• Happy and confident holding conversations with a cross section of people;
• The ability to problem solve, use your own initiative and to ask for help and advice when needed .

The following additional skills are desirable (not essential),

• Ability to read mechanical drawings;
• Can conduct and record scientific/technical tasks;
• Experience using scientific instruments;
• Operating mechanical equipment;
• Carrying out procurement tasks;
• Following and/or developing a Quality Management System;
• Experience in coordinating or scheduling the work of others.
