Job Details

Sparrow Quantum is seeking a highly skilled process engineer to advance our GaAs photonic integrated circuit cleanroom processing and design.

Are you interested in working with one of the world’s top quantum technology companies to commercialize unique quantum photonic technology?

Looking for an exciting career opportunity in a fast-growing start-up where you can directly impact critical decisions and developments?

If this sounds interesting, Sparrow Quantum might be the place for you. We invite you to explore the possibility of joining our team!

At Sparrow Quantum, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of light-matter interfaces for quantum technology by becoming the world’s leading supplier of state-of-the-art foundational quantum photonic components.

Our technology is based on quantum dots embedded in free-standing GaAs photonic integrated circuits, and we need to strengthen our technological excellence in cleanroom device production. Therefore, we seek a proactive and skilled process engineer to join our technology development teams. The successful candidate will have a background in cleanroom processing.

The ideal candidate will be a self-driven individual with a track record of successfully delivering technically challenging results in close cooperation with internal and external co-workers.

Responsibilities of the Role

  • E-beam lithography of photonic structures
  • Advanced etching procedures of GaAs chips
  • Post-process steps and packaging
  • Perform chip production at the clean room facility at Copenhagen University and at DTU NanoLab
  • Design optimization of photonic integrated circuits
  • Assist in dialogues with external fabrication partners
  • Heterogenous integration and expansion of our platform to new materials

In brief, we offer a unique opportunity for skilled process engineers passionate about delivering high-end optical integrated circuits for the quantum technology revolution.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or MS degree plus 1+ years of work experience in chip fabrication
  • Previous hands-on experience in e-beam lithography and etching processes
  • Experience in process design software, including proximity corrections of e-beam lithography
  • Numerical simulation of photonic circuits
  • Strong sense of ownership and willingness to drive development and delivery with ambitious targets
  • Good communication skills and experience working with engineering and scientific teams, customers, and suppliers
  • Experience working independently and managing priorities in ambiguous situations

Additionally, we expect that you thrive in a collaborative work environment and are inspired by the chance to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in quantum computing and information exchange. The opportunity to develop quantum technology for commercial purposes must align with your professional aspirations.

Desired abilities & competencies

  • Adaptability: You can thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment and be willing to learn new skills and approaches. As a member of our flock of Sparrows, you’ll have the opportunity to work across various fields, including materials, photonics, and quantum, which will keep your work diverse and engaging.
  • Creativity: You can think outside the box and generate innovative ideas and solutions.
  • End-user focus: You can understand and anticipate end-user needs and deliver solutions that exceed their expectations.
  • Self-starting team player: You can be a great collaborator in a team setting but also have the initiative and motivation to take on tasks independently.
