Full Professor Position in Experimental Astroparticle Physics and Multi-messenger Astronomy

Chiba University
Chiba, Japan
Posting live until
12 Jul 2024

The International Center for Hadron Astrophysics (ICEHAP) at Chiba University, Japan, invites applications for a full professorship in the field of high-energy neutrino astronomy and its applications to multimessenger astronomy. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in developing a strong research program to study astronomical phenomena with multimessenger observations, driven by the detection of high-energy neutrinos with the IceCube neutrino observatory and its future upgrade, the IceCube-Gen2 facility.

ICEHAP at Chiba University is one of the world's leading research groups in high-energy neutrino astronomy. Achievements led by ICEHAP include the first discovery of PeV-energy neutrinos, world-leading searches for ultra-high-energy cosmic neutrinos, the discovery of the anti-electron neutrino-induced Glashow resonance, and the first identification of an astronomical source emitting ultra-high-energy neutrinos with IceCube 170922A. Information on the history and science of IceCube is available at . ICEHAP is also playing several key roles in the design and fabrication of optical detectors for the ongoing IceCube upgrade, and is currently heavily involved in the design of the detectors to be used for IceCube-Gen2. More details are available at . ICEHAP and Chiba University are providing generous research support, including dedicated funding for personnel, computing facilities, and laboratory equipment for detector development appropriate to the proposed research program. The successful candidate will also be expected to attract external research funding and establish a competitive research project in particle astrophysics and multimessenger astronomy. Cross-appointment arrangements may be made if appropriate for a highly qualified candidate.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D or equivalent in physics or a closely related field, and several years of post-doctoral experience. The review of applications will begin September 16th, 2024, however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, Curriculum Vitae, a list of publications, a statement of research plans describing their mid-term scientific strategy, a list of acquired research funding, and arrange to have at least two letters of reference sent electronically to:
