POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR ON THE CMS EXPERIMENT

The Institute of Physics at the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest invites applications for a position of POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR on the CMS Experiment.

ELTE is the leading national university for subatomic physics in Hungary. The main research focus of the Department of Atomic Physics which hosts our group is particle and nuclear physics, astro-particle physics and astrophysics. Our University is a member of several large international collaborations, including CMS, CODEX-beta, DUNE, LHCb, LIGO, LSST, NA61, NUSTAR, Pan-STARRS, PHENIX, STAR, and T2K.

The CMS group pursues searches for phenomena Beyond the Standard Model, and measurements related to the Standard Model electroweak and QCD sectors, as well as Heavy Ion physics. Technical responsibilities are related to the high-level trigger, the BRIL beam background and luminosity detectors, and the Zero Degree Calorimeter, including participation in the Phase-2 CMS upgrade.

The successful candidate is expected to either join one of the current research projects in a leading role or start a new topic that fits the interest of the CMS group. We are thus looking for candidates with a PhD degree (or a recently submitted PhD thesis) and an excellent record in research. For interested candidates, teaching opportunities include laboratories and lectures to master students - the MSc and PhD programs at the Institute are entirely in English.

The candidate will be employed by Eötvös Loránd University and based at the centrally located Lágymányos campus along the Buda side of the river Danube. Funds are available for travel to CERN, conferences, and workshops. The start date of the contract is negotiable.

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply via e-mail to cms-pm@ttk.elte.hu . A curriculum vitae including important conference presentations and research grants, a list of selected publications noting the applicants contribution, a public link to the full list, a short description of research interests and plans need to be submitted. At least three letters of reference should be arranged by the candidate and received at cms-pm@ttk.elte.hu by the same deadline. Full consideration will be given to candidates whose application is received by 31 July, 2024. The position remains open until filled.

Further information can be obtained from Gabriella.Pasztor@ttk.elte.hu and veres.gabor@ttk.elte.hu

Women and members of minority groups underrepresented in the academic sector are especially encouraged to apply.
