Job Details
Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Job Description
Introduction
Are you an electrical technician, experienced in electrical systems and fieldwork? Take part of the Personnel Safety System Consolidation Program (PSS-CONS), join the Alarm Systems section (EN-AA-AS), and be responsible for fire detection and fire protection system’s maintenance, operation and installation works, in all CERN sites. We challenge you to propose smart and robust solutions for uncommon installations in long tunnels underground, radioactive environments, very strong magnetic fields and many others.
Functions
As an Electrical Technician working in EN-AA mainly for the Personnel Safety Systems Consolidation Project (PSS-CONS), you will take part in the design of major electrical components for infrastructure and systems. You will also be involved in producing, installing, commissioning, operating, and maintaining these components, notably those required for the accelerator complex.
Your functions will include:
- Design and maintain alarms and safety systems for personal protection;
- Compile and keep up to date the related documentation;
- Carry out or plan, organise and direct the operation, maintenance, repair, testing and modification of safety systems or equipment;
- Participate in the definition of safety equipment policies, in particular risk assessments, preventive and corrective maintenance, consolidation and spare parts;
- Carry out or supervise tests, interpret and report on results;
- Ensure that on-site work complies with safety rules, quality and technical requirements.
Qualifications
Technical certificate or general secondary education or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electrical engineering or a related field.
Experience:
- You have demonstrated experience in the design, installation and maintenance management of safety systems for personal protection, more specifically in fire safety using French and Swiss standards;
- You also have experience in supervising electrical works such as the construction of electrical cabinets and their on-site installations;
- Furthermore, you have proven experience in safety for works and services management using ServiceNow.
Technical competencies:
- Occupational safety and risk management: in particular, fire risk assessment;
- Design, installation and maintenance of industrial data-acquisition and safety systems, in particular, fire detection and emergency evacuation systems;
- Organisation, planning and control;
- Contract management: in particular, supervision of technical activities;
- Specification and follow-up of technical aspects of a contract: of safety systems.
Behavioural competencies:
- Managing Self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting. Taking initiative beyond regular tasks and making things happen;
- Solving Problems: finding the information needed to solve problems; making objective judgments based on all the facts available;
- Working in Teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships;
- Communicating Effectively: ensuring that information, procedures and decisions are appropriately documented;
- Demonstrating Flexibility: readily accepting new tasks or work/projects. Adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.
Language skills:
Spoken and written English or French: ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations in at least one of the two languages. Basic knowledge of the other language would be an asset or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
