Job Details
Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are available for an interdisciplinary project focused on developing data-driven mathematical models for cell differentiation. This project involves applying concepts and techniques from theoretical and statistical physics to biomedical and systems biology problems. The primary objective is to use the Hopfield model to develop mathematical frameworks that enhance understanding and control of cell differentiation processes. This involves integrating single-cell transcriptomics data to simulate gene network dynamics and the effects of various perturbations. This project will apply these models to study angiogenesis (the development of new blood vessels) and hematopoiesis (the production of blood cells). The aim is to enhance understanding and discover new therapeutic targets for diseases such as cancer and age-related macular degeneration.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field prior to the start date. A strong background in statistical physics and programming skills are required, along with basic knowledge of genetics and biochemistry.
Applications should be uploaded to the website careers.msu.edu using posting number 968184. The application should include a cover letter, CV, a statement of research interests and accomplishments (no more than 2 pages), and a list of publications, all combined in a single PDF file. Additionally, candidates should include the contact information for two references. We will request letters as necessary.
Review of applications will begin on September 15th 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. Inquiries can be directed to the PI of the project, Prof. Carlo Piermarocchi, at piermaro@msu.edu.
