The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science (SC) is filling a position for the Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) Program. The incumbent will function as a program manager for the Plasma Technology/Microelectronics programs in the Enabling Science and Partnerships (ESP) Division. The ESP Division supports multidisciplinary, multi‐institutional team research that addresses critical scientific and technology gaps and brings together discovery science, innovation, and translational research. A key activity of this Division is to develop the scientific foundation for the utilization/application of plasmas in various ways that can unlock its potential to transform various aspects of society such as manufacturing, microelectronics, medicine, agriculture, and energy systems. 

Duties include:

• Coordinate, evaluate, and manage research programs in the utilization of plasmas that could enhance various aspects of society.

• Represent FES in SC, inter-agency, and international working groups in plasma technologies.

• Discover new applications of plasma technologies through intersecting plasma R&D with multidisciplinary topics.

• Support the development of new capabilities and/or small-scale facilities that can conduct the required research to bring these plasma technologies to fruition.

• Prepare Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) and Funding Announcements to DOE National Laboratories, conduct peer reviews of proposals for new or continuing projects, and prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate funding recommendations.

• Support the budget process related to the incumbent’s  research portfolio.

• Prepare strategic plans for the programs under the incumbent’s purview based on scientific and technical research opportunities that are aligned with DOE, SC, and FES strategic priorities, including the FES Long-Range Plan.
