Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor in Biophysics or Condensed Matter Physics
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas Christian University (TCU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Biophysics/Condensed Matter Physics at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to begin in Fall 2025. Applicants should have a PhD in Physics or related discipline, a strong record of achievement in physics/biophysics-related research enhancing the major directions of Departmental development, and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and outreach. Applicants with experimental or theoretical background will be considered. The Department and the University are dedicated to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment and individuals who are committed to furthering these causes are encouraged to apply. We especially welcome applicants from groups traditionally underrepresented in Physics. Post-doctoral experience or industry equivalent is required.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physics and to advise PhD candidates. TCU is an R2 institution that aspires to transition to a higher research activity status while following its Teacher-Scholar model with the typical teaching load of 2 courses per semester. We expect the candidate to successfully secure external funding sufficient to conduct an independent and vigorous research program.
We also expect that the new faculty member will strengthen and expand our undergraduate and graduate programs in physics.
The Department has an excellent student/faculty ratio with an active group of majors. The current departmental focus in physics/biophysics is nanotechnology, biotechnology, optical spectroscopy/fluorescence, biomedical applications of nanoscale materials. For further information about the Department see: https://cse.tcu.edu/physics-astronomy/.
TCU uses an online application protocol administered by Human Resources: jobs.tcu.edu. To apply, complete an application and provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, detailed research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy, the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) statement and the contact information of three references that will submit letters of recommendation (LOR) on your behalf. Three letters of recommendation will be requested at a later time in the hiring process from the three references listed in your application. Your references will receive an email from TCU asking them to upload their LOR on your behalf.
For full consideration please apply by December 20th 2024. The review of applications will begin December 20th, 2025 and continue until the position is filled. Should you have any inquiries, please contact hrtalentacquisition@tcu.edu.
