Pay Range

$6,410 - $7,780 Monthly

This position is under a step structure. Salary is based on academic level. Transcripts are required.

We have an opening for an Academic Graduate Appointee to participate in studies aimed at understanding how different agricultural processes impact soil carbon accumulation and persistence. You will assist in collecting and processing soil, plant, and root biomass samples for natural abundance radio and stable isotope analysis and carbon stock measurements. In addition, you will process samples for physiochemical characterization such as soil moisture, aggregate stability, and pH. This position is in the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry group in the Atmosphere Earth and Energy Division (AEED).

In this role you will

• Prepare samples for natural abundance isotope analyses using accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS);
• Conduct physiochemical analyses of soil such as pH, moisture content, and aggregate stability;
• Participate in field sampling campaigns to collect soil, plant, and root biomass;
• Present overviews of results at group meetings and participate in publication;
• Track sample flow and lab supplies inventory; keep an organized lab environment;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Biology, or related discipline;
• Experience with field collection of soil, plant, or root biomass samples;
• Experience processing samples for natural abundance isotopic analyses;
• Experience conducting soil physiochemical analyses such as pH and aggregate stability;
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work in a collaborative research environment and to document and present research results.

Security Clearance
