Job Details

The Simons Collaboration on New Frontiers in Superconductivity collaboration, launched in 2024, aims to understand superconductivity in systems with strong coupling, multiple valley and orbital degrees of freedom, and quantum geometric and topological influences. By integrating advanced numerical methods such as machine learning and AI with these new theoretical insights, the collaboration seeks to predict and discover new superconducting materials with higher critical temperatures and novel properties. The collaboration includes 18 frontier research groups, see our webpage: People (simonssuperconductivity.org). These postdoctoral positions give you an exceptional platform for global collaboration and networking. The postdocs will participate, for example, in a yearly meeting at the Simons Foundation in New York, and a summer/winter school of the collaboration.

The following research groups are searching for postdoctoral researchers to work in this new collaboration. You may apply to one or several positions; for each position, please submit your application via its specific link. Please tell in your cover letter if you apply to several groups, and their order of preference if you have one.

The positions

Professor Daniel Agterberg (University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, USA) and Dr. Aline Ramires (Paul Scherrer Insitute, Switzerland) offer a jointly supervised postdoctoral position. The research will focus on unraveling the non-trivial effects that multiple internal degrees of freedom and their interplay with lattice symmetries have on the superconducting pairing and other electronic orders. More information and application via this link: Open Positions | Pseudospin (uwm.edu).

Professor Andrey Chubukov (Fine Theoretical Physics Institute at the University of Minnesota) are seeking to fill (up to) four postdoctoral positions in condensed matter theory. One of these positions is associated with Professor Chubukov under the Simons Collaboration on New Frontiers in Superconductivity. Please see University of Minnesota, School of Physics and Astronomy Searches (academicjobsonline.org) (Academic Jobs Online, Job ID #28426) to apply. Inquiries should be sent to Meghan Murray at bieve008@umn.edu.

Professor Laura Classen (Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, Germany) seeks applications from highly motivated candidates who are interested and experienced in the study of electronic mechanisms for superconductivity. The research will focus on novel pairing scenarios and the interplay with other phases in quantum materials with multiple electronic degrees of freedom. More information on the position and application can found here: Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) | Simons Collaboration on New Frontiers of Superconductivity | Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (mpg.de)

Professor Päivi Törmä (Aalto University, Finland) is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on the theory of quantum geometry and superconductivity, in a joint project with Professor Tero Heikkilä (University of Jyväskylä, Finland). The research will focus on new frontiers of quantum geometric superconductivity such as non-equilibrium and dynamical phenomena in flat bands, and includes collaboration with experimentalists. More information and application via this link: Postdoctoral Researcher Position in the Simons Collaboration on New Frontiers of Superconductivity | Aalto University

Professor Oskar Vafek (National High Magnetic Field Laboratory and Florida State University) is seeking to fill two postdoctoral positions in condensed matter theory. One of these positions is associated with Professor Vafek under the Simons Collaboration on New Frontiers in Superconductivity. Please see Florida State University, Condensed Matter Theory/Condensed Matter Science/National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (academicjobsonline.org) (Academic Jobs Online, Job ID #28364) to apply. Inquiries should be sent directly to Oskar Vafek at vafek@magnet.fsu.edu.

Applications

To apply for the positions, please submit your application including the attachments mentioned below as one single PDF document in English through the online recruitment system of each of the above groups that you are interested in.

1. Letter of motivation including a maximum 2 pages research statement

2. CV including list of publications

3. Degree certificates and academic transcripts

4. Contact details of at least two referees (or letters of recommendation, if already available)

The deadline for applications is 31st of October 2024, but the positions will remain open until filled.
