Job Details

The Department of Physics at Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics.  Exceptional candidates from all areas of experimental hard condensed matter physics are encouraged to apply. Possible focus areas include but are not limited to quantum materials, material synthesis, quantum device engineering, advanced probes of novel phases in solid state, low dimensional materials, non-equilibrium quantum dynamics, topological phases and unconventional superconductivity, quantum sensing and metrology, and advanced magnetics. Candidates whose interests complement and enhance our existing research programs are especially encouraged to apply. 

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to: 

  1. Build a forward-looking and internationally competitive research program within their area of expertise that aligns with the goals and objectives of a university environment, which includes obtaining external funding, mentoring students, and disseminating findings through high-quality publications and presentations. 
  2. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence by engaging in innovative instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as mentoring and advising undergraduate students, graduate students, and potentially postdoctoral researchers. 
  3. Participate in department and university governance and service activities.
  4. Engage in scholarly and professional endeavors to support continued growth as a teacher and scholar.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics or a related field by the start date. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Postdoctoral experience and/or research experience beyond the PhD
  • Ability to develop an internationally recognized research program that complements existing departmental programs, provides compelling opportunities for students, and is sustained through securing external funding. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring excellence. 
  • Potential to contribute to the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the department. 

Note: Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Professor level must have an outstanding record of research and teaching accomplishments commensurate with the appointment level.

About the Department

The Department of Physics has 20 faculty members with nationally and internationally recognized research programs in atomic, molecular, and optical physics; condensed matter physics; and high-energy physics and particle astrophysics. Our condensed matter group consists of seven faculty with experimental and theoretical programs in magnetics/spintronics, scanning probe microscopy, quantum materials, 2D materials synthesis, superconductivity, photovoltaics, and nanoscale pattern formation.
