Overview
Our Quantitative Systematic Traders combine the skills of quantitative research with the knowledge of trading to develop new electronic strategies and monitor real-time performance. As a true hybrid of our core disciplines, Quantitative Systematic Traders are constantly communicating and connecting ideas between trading, technology, and quantitative research.
As a Quantitative Systematic Trading Intern at Susquehanna, you will work on projects that model the work of our full-time employees. You will also go through a comprehensive education programme and interact with mentors who are at the top of their field, allowing you to build foundational knowledge in quantitative finance. Education topics include an introduction to options pricing, exposure to our proprietary data sets, and opportunities to practice data analysis techniques. You will have the opportunity to practice making trading decisions in a simulated trading environment.
What we're looking for
Research Minded: You enjoy diving deep into a question and are interested in exploring the subtleties of the dynamic market conditions. You like building mathematical models to reveal patterns in the vast amount of data and love it when you discover a solution to a difficult problem.
Technically Proficient: You have experience writing code to process and analyse large sets of data. You’re an analytical problem solver and use logical reasoning to justify your decisions.
A communicator: You enjoy building relationships with those you work closely with. You enjoy sharing ideas, expressing your thoughts, and listening to the views of others. You’re not afraid to discuss ideas and work with others to find the optimal solution.
Ambitious: You’re someone that enjoys setting personal goals and giving your all to achieve them. Be it in Academics, Sports, the Arts, or another passion you have, you’re not afraid to put in the effort to reach your full potential.
Class of 2025 or 2026: You are a PhD or Research Masters student in the penultimate year of study, majoring in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, or econometrics, and available to join the internship in late June, 2025. Successful interns are invited back as graduates to join our full-time graduate programme.
What’s In It For You:
Education: Throughout the programme you’ll have classes covering a vast range of topics (game theory, finance, python, data analysis) from some of the most experienced employees at Susquehanna.
Development: You will get to work with a wide range of people in the classroom and through your project work. People who share a passion for mathematics, problem-solving, game theory and technology with you.
Decision Making: Learn how to make great decisions. Using strategy games, like poker and several in-house games we’ve developed, you’ll learn how we leverage game theory to make better decisions in the financial markets.
Culture: Our culture allows employees of every level to thrive. We buck the trend in the financial world – the environment is casual, collaborative and we focus on continuous development, no matter how long you’ve been in Susquehanna.
Perks: Based in Ireland’s Financial Services Centre, in the heart of Dublin’s city centre, our employees avail of free onsite catering, a games room, and a large in house gym, to name but a few of our favourite perks. We organise weekly social activities during the summer for our interns and we’ll also provide summer interns, who aren’t from Dublin, with accommodation for the duration of the internship.

Our rigorous and analytical approach to decision making has led us to become one of the largest and most successful proprietary trading firms in the world. In offices around the globe, our employees are relentless problem solvers who collaborate to make optimal decisions.
Why work for us
Working at Susquehanna allows you to apply your quantitative skills and systematic thinking to trading environments. We give you ample space to think deeply about the questions you are contemplating and provide a variety of tools to solve complex problems.

Training and development
As a quant, you will begin your career in the Quantitative Research + Systematic Trading Program, which bridges the gap between academia and industry. You will gain insights into financial markets to ensure a well-rounded understanding of the industry. We teach you how to gather, analyze, and interpret financial data using internal data sets. This foundation prepares you to develop practical strategies for real-world application. Our trading floor serves as an unlimited source of discussion for learning and development.
What we are looking for
Susquehanna hires STEM Ph.D.s who are interested in applying their research, analysis, and development skills to the financial markets. Quantitative researchers develop the building blocks of trading strategies, requiring exceptional attention to detail and a relentless drive for deeper understanding. Quantitative systematic traders enhance and integrate the building blocks that our researchers develop to monetize strategies and manage risk. Both roles require skill in mathematics, statistics, and programing to aid in solving complex problems in our trading environment.
