SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Research Associate with a proven track record in Advanced Accelerator R&D and/or Collider Accelerator R&D.

In this position, you will contribute to the design of a 10 TeV Collider based on Wakefield Accelerator Technology. Study topics include staging of plasma accelerators, novel beam delivery systems, beam-beam interactions with extreme beamstrahlung, and collider systems optimization. Participation in the FACET-II experimental program is encouraged.

Your specific duties include:

  • Modeling of plasma accelerators and beamlines using Particle-in-Cell and Particle Tracking codes. Design of novel collimation systems based on particle-laser interactions. Contributions to the 10 TeV Wakefield Accelerator Collider design document. Participation in the FACET-II experimental program.

Note: The Research Associate role is a fixed term staff position. Appointment duration is 24 months, with the possibility of extension. Assignment duration is contingent upon project needs and funding.

Applicants must provide evidence of either a recently completed PhD degree or confirmation of completion of the PhD degree requirements prior to starting the position. Applicants should also include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae which includes a list of publications, and names of three references for future letters of recommendation with the application.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Ph.D. in physical sciences or engineering. Experience with advanced accelerator R&D, such as plasma accelerators, and/or experience with collider design and operation. Experience with programming (preferably Python or Matlab) Experience with Particle-in-Cell and/or Particle Tracking codes. Ability to carry out independent and collaborative research in a diverse research team. Effective written and verbal communication skills. good interpersonal skills are essential.
