The theory and phenomenology group of the Department of Nuclear Physics (DPhN) at CEA/Irfu - Université Paris-Saclay invites applications for three two-year post-doctoral positions. Two positions are funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR), while the third is funded by the AIDAS Virtual Laboratory (https://aidas-lab.eu/) born from a collaboration between CEA and the Forschungszentrum of Jülich. This third position will be shared between DPhN and the Department for Computing, Detector and Electronics (DEDIP) of CEA/Irfu. The expected start date for the positions is approximately October the 1st 2025, but earlier start dates are possible.
Candidates to the ANR-funded positions are expected to focus primarily on the study of theoretical and phenomenological aspects of generalised parton distributions (GPDs) and transverse-momentum distributions (TMDs) of interest to the DPhN theory and phenomenology group. However, external collaborations will also be encouraged. In this respect, the Paris-Saclay area hosts many institutions (IPhT Saclay, IJCLab, CPHT at École Polytechnique) active in the field of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) at large, providing a very dynamics scientific environment. However, collaborations with other national and foreign partners will be equally welcome.
The DPhN/DEDIP joint position, held in collaboration with the lattice QCD group of the Forshungzentrum of Jülich, will be devoted to the treatment in hard QCD processes of inverse problems related to the sparsity of available data. Specifically, the candidate will develop machine learning tools aimed at extracting GPDs and the TMDs with a reliable estimate of systematic uncertainties.
Applicants are required to have defended a Ph.D. in theoretical or phenomenological hadron physics prior to the start date of the appointment. Applicants without previous postdoctoral experience are encouraged to apply. Experience in numerical analyses, independently of the scientific context, will be appreciated but not mandatory. The positions feature a competitive salary, proportionate to the experience of the appointee, which includes retirement benefit, health insurance, and subsidized lunches. Funding is also provided for attendance at conferences and workshops.
Applications should be sent by e-mail to Cédric Mezrag (cedric.mezrag@cea.fr), Valerio Bertone (valerio.bertone@cea.fr) and Jérôme Bobin (jerome.bobin@cea.fr), indicating in the subject the candidate’s full name and including:
- a curriculum vitae;
- a list of selected publication with explicit mention of the candidate's contributions;
- a research statement (no longer than 2 pages) detailing scientific work, future plans and affinities with the local research group.
Applicants should also arrange for two reference letters to be sent to the above addresses. Full consideration will be granted to applications submitted before December 20st 2024, 23:59 Paris time.
For additional information, please contact Cédric Mezrag (cedric.mezrag@cea.fr), Valerio Bertone (valerio.bertone@cea.fr) and Jérôme Bobin (jerome.bobin@cea.fr).
