Pay Range
$39.98 - $49.65 Hourly for the 531.2 level
$47.93 - $59.49 Hourly for the 531.3 level
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. Job Description
We have an opening for Electronics Technologist - Mid/Senior to support the Security and Protection (S&P) Program within the Security Organization (SO). The S&P Program is responsible for managing the evaluation, development, and operations support of the Argus and Caerus security systems. In this role, you will fabricate and test electrical and electronic assemblies, integrate systems, and install complex electronic components in support of security hardware deployment and sustainment. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.
The position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.
You will
- Design, fabricate, diagnose, troubleshoot, test, evaluate, and maintain moderately complex electronic components and unique security systems, using work control process and procedure requirements;
- Independently perform experimental tests and measurements, often requiring you to interpret and analyze schematics and operating manuals;
- Prepare and maintain systems documentation and experimental records;
- Provide general electronic technical support to engineering, scientific, and technical staff to plan and conduct experiments at LLNL and other off-site locations;
- Contribute to moderately complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision process;
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness, while adhering to written safety procedures;
- Responsible for ensuring that support and experimental areas are kept clean, uncluttered, and in a state of readiness;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities, at the 531.3 level
- Design, fabricate, assemble, and disassemble complex electronic components and systems including planning, equipment selection, and methods;
- Identify, analyze, and provide solutions and alternate approaches to complex electronic problems using independent creativity and judgment;
- Maintain, test, calibrate, and repair advanced electronics circuits, instrumentation and control, as well as diagnostic systems.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship;
- Associate degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and related experience;
- Ability to read and follow engineering notes, sketches, drawings, specifications, and procedures;
- Experience in electronics fabrication processes with the ability to operate specialized tools;
- Intermediate skills, knowledge, and abilities in electronics technology including theory, design, and component to system level with the understanding of analog and digital electronics;
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to achieve goals;
- Ability to work effectively handling multiple assignments concurrently;
- Ability to travel locally to work with subcontractor manufacturers and vendors.
Additional qualifications at the 531.3 Level
- Advanced technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures and the ability to interpret and execute complex assembly procedures from engineering notes, sketches, drawings, and other technical material;
- Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision in the production and fabrication of electronic assemblies and devices; experience in leading, training or mentoring other technicians;
- Advanced communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills and abilities.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with moderately complex security system design or installation;
- Ability to maintain documentation relating to experimental assemblies;
- Demonstrated ability to work with others and multi-task assignments;
- Ability to travel to DOE enterprise sites nationwide.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
