Job description:
The Physics Department of the University of Coimbra, Portugal, invites applications from highly qualified individuals for an academic post at the Assistant Professor level for the area of Physics / Physics Engineering, sub-area of Space Instrumentation (hardware).
The Physics Department covers a wide range of research, from theoretical and experimental physics and astronomy to technology with societal impact. It has a strong R&D activity in radiation detection technologies for applications in nuclear and particle physics, medical applications and space. Current activities in space instrumentation include the development of new experiments for gamma polarimetry, detection of space debris, or Earth observation using machine learning techniques, for example. The field of space applications is developing fast in Portugal. The local ecosystem includes several companies and a very active technology transfer center, in addition to several university research centers. The department hosts a well-attended MSc course in Astrophysics and Space Instrumentation. The new academic will play a leading role in strengthening the department’s position in Space Instrumentation.
