Applications are invited for two PhD positions in lattice field theory at the Department of Theoretical Physics of ELTE Eotvos Lorand University Budapest, funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant of Gergely Endrodi. The positions are announced initially for three years and are open as of September 2025, but an earlier or later starting date is also possible.
The successful candidate will work in the research group of Gergely Endrodi, with research interests including:
- QCD thermodynamics and phase diagram;
- lattice QCD+QED and novel simulation algorithms;
- dense QCD matter and neutron star physics;
- cosmological phase transitions and gravitational wave signals.
Our group participates in a broad network of international collaborations and has access to substantial high-performance computational resources. The department offers an excellent and creative work environment with a strong lattice QCD profile. Permanent faculty members working in lattice field theory include Matteo Giordano, Sandor Katz, Tamas Kovacs, Daniel Nogradi and Attila Pasztor. Ample travel support to attend conferences, workshops and training events, as well as for short external research visits, is available.
Applicants are expected to have a successfully completed or soon to be completed MSc degree or equivalent in physics, documented knowledge of quantum field theory and QCD, experience with programming and numerical methods and a great ability to work in a team and communicate in English. Distinctive presentation and moderation skills are preferred.
For full consideration, please send your application (including CV and motivation letter) via email in a single PDF document to gergely.endrodi@ttk.elte.hu by no later than February 28, 2025. Moreover, please arrange one letter of recommendation to be sent to the same address by the same deadline.
