Pay Range

$6,692.90 - $7,650.50 Monthly

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for a BioEngineering Academic Graduate Appointee. You will work under the guidance of staff members to execute experiments and activities in the areas of molecular biology, microfluidic devices, and automated workflows. This position is physically located primarily at the Joint BioEnergy Institute in Emeryville, CA and is organizationally positioned in the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

You Will

  • Work with project engineers and biologists to implement molecular biology processes including DNA assembly, transformation, cell culture, and CRISPR/Cas9;
  • Conduct, analyze, and present data from experiments to develop and optimize systems for high throughput gene editing;
  • Make scientific presentations at JBEI meetings and external conferences;
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to accomplish research goals;
  • Contribute to scientific publications and patent applications;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or related field;
  • Experience in molecular biology and bioengineering demonstrated by coursework, training and/or work experience;
  • Experience conducting experiments related to designing, evaluating, or implementing molecular biology-based workflows in a laboratory setting;
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, document analyses and prepare, present and explain technical information and publications;
  • Strong initiative, interpersonal skills, creativity, and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with performing experiments related to electroporation;
  • Experience working with automated systems in a laboratory environment;
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9.

This is a one-year Academic Graduate Appointee, open to those who have been awarded a degree at the time of the employment offer.

Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
