The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a postdoctoral position in experimental cosmology. The successful candidate will join the research group of Professor Jeff Filippini , as well as the broader Illinois Center for Advanced Studies of the Universe ( ICASU ).

Our lab engages in a variety of instrumentation and analysis projects in the CMB and THz bands. We particularly seek candidates interested in:

  • Analysis of 2015+2023 data from the SPIDER balloon experiment, which observed the CMB and Galactic dust polarization from 90-280 GHz.
  • Development of next-generation cosmic microwave background instruments on balloon (Taurus) and ground (CMB-S4).


Candidates are expected to have earned a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field by Fall 2025; to be experienced with relevant instrumentation and analysis techniques; and to have strong communication skills.
