The Instrumentation Services and Development Division (ISDD) is responsible for the development, design, construction and support of instrumentation at the ESRF, for both the beamlines and the accelerator complex.
Your mission is focused on the management of the Detector & Electronics group which comprises ~35 engineers and technicians organised into three specialised teams providing support, maintenance services, development capabilities and expertise for instrumentation needs in the areas of electronics and detection for the facility.
You will be responsible for:
- Organising and overseeing the daily operation of the group and coordinating efficient resource allocation (both human and financial).
- Devising and implementing a multi-annual strategy for electronics and detector developments at ESRF.
- Promoting ESRF activities related to the domain of expertise of the group through participation in international collaborations, conferences and publications.
In particular, your main tasks will involve:
- Resource management: project assignment, recruitment, skills development and training plans, conflict management.
- Budget management: Review financial information, coordinate calls for tender, plan and oversee investments, provide regular progress reports.
- Project management: define requirements, perform functional and detailed analyses, coordinate complex projects and review reports as well as contributing technical expertise.
- Represent the group in management meetings.
- Stimulate technical exchanges within the group, promote constructive exchange and drive collective key objectives.
- Interact and liaise with internal and external partners to identify future needs for scientific instrumentation.
- Investigate and foster collaborative opportunities for ESRF and transfer of technology/ knowledge.
- You should hold a Higher university degree (Master or equivalent diploma offering 300 ECTS) in detector or electronics engineering or in another instrumentation-related field such as physics.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a project and people management role.
- A solid background and experience on technical management of instrumentation projects, particularly in the area of electronics or detection, are mandatory.
- Experience in software design, C, C++ or Python will be considered an additional asset;
- This managerial position requires excellent communication and leadership skills, decision-making, self-confidence and an ability to take initiative and provide imaginative guidance.
- Keen understanding of relevant technological markets on a global scale.
- Proficiency in English (English is the working language at the ESRF).
The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
