The Physics Department at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a postdoctoral position with its experimental particle/nuclear physics group. The research activities of the group focus on hadron spectroscopy with an emphasis on the search for and study of nonconventional mesons. The group plays a leading role in the study of nonconventional charmonium mesons at the BESIII experiment at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) in Beijing, China, and is one of the founding members of the GlueX experiment at Jefferson National Laboratory (JLab) in Newport News, USA. Both experiments are collecting cutting-edge data sets for hadron spectroscopy over a wide range of mass scales. The successful candidate will play a leading role in data analysis and software development.
A Ph.D. in experimental high-energy or nuclear physics is required by time of appointment. No prior experience in hadron spectroscopy is necessary. The appointment could begin as early as May 1, 2025. Later start dates are negotiable.
Applications, including a CV, a statement of research interests, and three letters of reference, should be submitted through the application portal located at: https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/27762.
Review of applications will begin on April 1, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. The position is annually renewable assuming satisfactory performance. For questions, please contact the Physics Department at 812-855-1247 or Ryan Mitchell (remitche@iu.edu).
The College of Arts and Sciences is committed to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars.
