The Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at the Institute of Physics, University of Tartu, Estonia is expecting to open new PhD positions starting in September 2025 with a nominal duration of 4 years. The students will be employed as junior research fellows at the university with a salary of 1490 euros/month (after all taxes). The selection process passes through two stages: firstly the projects proposed by the supervisors apply for funding (February-March), and secondly candidates submit formal application documents for the positions that got the funding (1-15 May) to receive the official decision about acceptance in early June. We are inviting highly motivated candidates to express their interest early, already during the preparation for the first stage, to design the details of the PhD projects accordingly.

The PhD topics will address the main lines of research advanced by the group:

  • Theoretical foundations and implementation of numerical relativity in the teleparallel approach (María-José Guzmán);
  • Geometric foundations of gravity, unification, and phenomenology, based on the recent developments in parallel relativity and gauge gravity (Tomi Koivisto, Manuel Hohmann, Laur Järv, Margus Saal).

Further details about our research activities can be found at the laboratory homepage, which will later also harbor a link to the PhD projects open for the submission of formal application documents: https://fi.ut.ee/en/content/laboratory-theoretical-physics.

For an early expression of interest, the potential candidates are requested to upload their CV (which must include a brief statement of motivation and the name(s) and email(s) of the persons of reference) to https://tinyurl.com/bdwannph.
