The Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet (LLR) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in particle physics with the CMS experiment, in the context of the ANR project "COHERE". The LLR is a laboratory of the IN2P3 (CNRS) and the école polytechnique, one of the engineering schools of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IPP). It is dedicated to fundamental research in High-energy particle physics and astroparticle physics. Its members work on the LHCb and CMS experiments at the LHC, the T2K, Super-K and Hyper-K neutrino experiments in Japan, and in FERMI, HESS and CTA for gamma-ray astronomy.
The CMS group at the LLR has about 30 members and focuses on measurements of the electroweak and Higgs sectors of the standard model, searches for di-Higgs production, on searches for physics beyond the Standard Model as well as on heavy-ion physics. The group takes a leading role in the operation of the electromagnetic calorimeter and developments of the trigger. In addition, it has key responsibilities in the R&D and construction of the high granularity calorimeter, the CMS endcap calorimeter for the high-luminosity LHC era. The main activities of the group for this project are on the mechanics, electronics, and triggering.
The successful candidate will be expected to work on measurements of the Higgs boson and the electroweak sector of the standard model, and interpretations in the context of effective field theories of these measurements. The successful candidate is also expected to support the technical activities of the group, for example on the high-granularity calorimeter and detector operations during data taking. In these different areas, the successful candidate will be working with several PhD students.
The duration of this postdoctoral position will be for up to 3 years. The position will be based at the LLR in Palaiseau (just outside of Paris), with travel to CERN (~3.5 hours by train) as needed. The position is expected to start in the autumn of 2025; some flexibility in the start date is possible. The successful candidate should hold a PhD by the time of the position start date.
For questions about the position, please contact Adinda de Wit (adinda.dewit@cern.ch).
To apply, interested candidates should send the following materials to adinda.dewit@cern.ch:
- A curriculum vitae;
- A list of publications to which the candidate made major contributions, with a brief description of the candidate's contributions to each of the listed publications;
- A description of current research activities and research interests (no more than 2 pages).
In addition, interested candidates should arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the same e-mail address (adinda.dewit@cern.ch).
For full consideration, applicants should make sure that application materials reach us no later than Friday, March 21st, 2025.
