In 1978, the institution took the name of the Geneva School of Engineers (EIG). With the entry into force of the law and the ordinance on universities of applied sciences in 1996, the status of HES was conferred on it. The School then consisted of the two divisions HES and School of Technical Education (EET). In 2008, the EET was moved and became the Geneva Center for Technical Vocational Training (CFPT).
The School of Horticulture has existed since 1887. First established in Châtelaine, it was transferred to the current site of Lullier in 1974. It has two subdivisions: the HES and the Centre for Professional Training in Nature and the Environment (CFPNE).
The merger of these two engineering schools existing in the canton of Geneva took place at the beginning of 2009: the Geneva School of Engineering and the Lullier School of Engineering now form the Geneva School of Landscape, Engineering and Architecture (HEPIA).
