Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) invites applications for a research scientist position to work on the TRopIcal DEep-sea Neutrino Telescope ( TRIDENT ) experiment.
TRIDENT is a next-generation neutrino telescope, designed to swiftly identify multiple astrophysical neutrino sources upon becoming operational. The experiment will incorporate rapid photosensors and extended waveform readout electronics within a hybrid digital optical module (hDOM). This innovative design aims to notably enhance the angular resolution for high-energy neutrinos and the sensitivity across all neutrino flavors. When fully operational, the TRIDENT array will encompass approximately 1000 strings, monitoring a volume of several km3. This will result in marked improvements in angular resolution for high-energy neutrinos and increased sensitivity for all neutrino flavors.
The successful candidate is expected to carry out independent research projects to advance TRIDENT’s scientific program, including but not limiting to astrophysical neutrino source searches and flavor identification, searching for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The successful candidate will also take a leading role in developing data acquisition (DAQ) system, simulation and analysis framework for TRIDENT, managing up-coming large-scale scientific computing facilities and exploring using artificial intelligence in TRIDENT. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other physicists and engineers at TRIDENT, taking on some administrative tasks, including project management, reviews, and system tests. They will mentor graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to public outreach efforts.
