Job Details

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, USA, invites applications for the Grainger Endowed Professorial Chair in Electrical and Power Engineering.

Review of applications will continue until the position is filled, but for best consideration, applications should be received by 23:59 (CDT; UTC-5) March 31st 2025.

All areas within the scope of the Professorial Chair's Endowment will be considered, but the Department is particularly keen to receive applications from individuals whose research both complements and extends that already at Illinois Tech, and which contributes synergistically to activities beyond, as well as within, power engineering.

Strengthening and growing our work in Electrical and Power Engineering will be one of the major Illinois Institute of Technology initiatives over the coming years.  The demand for clean, reliable power is greater than ever.  The need for an effective, reliable, and efficient means to deliver that energy to meet new demands is near-critical.  Illinois Tech is well positioned to lead the US and wider world towards a more efficient, more reliable, and more secure energy future.

We seek outstanding candidates with expertise in related areas including but not limited to Smart grid architecture and operation, renewable energy integration, microgrid design and energy management, AI-driven power grid optimization, coordination of power grid with transportation electrification, power system cybersecurity, and power grid resilience enhancement. The successful candidate will be invited to play a critical role in strengthening the ongoing research at Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research and Robert W. Galvin Center for Electricity Innovation.

Applications from everyone are welcomed.  We are especially excited to receive applications from unconventional thinkers and do-ers, who are committed to the highest standards of research, education, and innovation.  Those with non-traditional educational or career paths, including career changers and veterans, are welcomed and valued, as are people of all backgrounds including people of backgrounds which are currently under-represented in our Department and STEM more widely.

Founded in 1890, Illinois Institute of Technology is a world-leading private research university located in Chicago, Illinois.  For more than 120 years our faculty, students, and alumni have been changing the world for the better.  Our Department, and its faculty, students, and alumni have an illustrious history - including the invention of the first electronic amplifier, magnetic recording, the cell phone, and much more.  Join us as we make Illinois Tech the home of the world’s premier and most innovative Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
