Job Details

D-Wave is seeking a junior mechanical designer to join our engineering team. The successful applicant will gain experience in our state-of-the-art lab working with complex, multi-disciplinary systems. You will collaborate on various design projects that span engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance.   

What you will do: 

  • Design, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting and improvement of system sub-assemblies; 
  • Assisting in the mechanical assembly of complete systems; 
  • Performing and documenting system-level tests; 
  • Assembling, testing, and troubleshooting supply service systems; 
  • Detailing designs and documenting assembly procedures; 
  • Assisting in development projects as well as scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. 

You have: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Physics, or equivalent training and experience; 
  • Solid‐modeling and detailed drawing experience; 
  • Proficiency in designing for machining and metal forming processes; 
  • Capable of comprehending and explaining complex technical concepts; 
  • An excellent understanding of engineering with strong technical skills;  
  • Excellent critical thinking, analysis, and problem solving;  
  • Excellent written & verbal communication; 
  • Willingness and interest to perform field work and join our on-call team rotation. 

Exceptional candidates will have: 

  • Exposure to multi-disciplinary technical drawings, schematics, procedures and system design; 
  • Mechanical prototype designs experience; 
  • Selected materials based on material properties; 
  • Software programming experience; 
  • Assisted in Engineering Change Orders for production; 
  • Cryogenic and/or high vacuum equipment experience; 
  • Knowledge of a variety of manufacturing processes; 
  • Mechanical, electrical, automotive, or bicycle repair experience; 
  • Creative hobbies – sewing, painting, woodworking, etc. ;
  • Ability to become a Registrant with EGBC.

The base salary for this role is targeted between $87,000 - $130,000 CAD a year. The final offer is determined by your proficiencies within this level.
