Created as an independent agency by Congress in 1974, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) ensures the safe use of radioactive materials for beneficial civilian purposes while protecting people and the environment.  NRC regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials through licensing, inspection, and enforcement of its requirements. We have career opportunities for the bright and motivated, for the experienced and dedicated, for both professionals and recent graduates.

Why work for us
When it comes to having a direct impact on the well-being and quality of life of Americans, few employers can match the personal and professional satisfaction that comes from working for the NRC. Our mission is as important as it is far-reaching, with a positive, collaborative, and diverse work environment. Opportunities exist at our headquarters in Rockville, MD; Region I: King of Prussia, PA; Region II: Atlanta, GA; Region III: Naperville, IL; Region IV: Arlington, TX; and the Technical Training Center in Chattanooga, TN.

Training and development
Knowledge and experience are the keys to carrying out the NRC mission. The NRC offers classroom and on-the-job training, supervisory and management training, and specialized technical training. Training is offered using traditional classrooms, computer laboratories, full-scope nuclear power-plant control-room simulators, and web-based training. You’ll develop the competencies required to accomplish your assigned regulatory activities, and you’ll learn how to perform inspection, investigation, licensing, and enforcement activities, and gain an understanding of various nuclear facilities.

What we are looking for
Our goal is to build a diverse workforce that is valued, appreciated, and committed to enhancing regulatory excellence. We encourage trust, respect, and open communication to foster and promote an inclusive work environment. The NRC typically focuses recruitment efforts on entry-level and experienced engineers, scientists, and security professionals. Our technical occupations include health physicists, physical scientists, engineers, geologists, enforcement specialists, emergency preparedness specialists, reactor inspectors, and IT specialists.
