The Institute of Physical Sciences at UNAM, ICF-UNAM, Mexico, invites interested individuals to apply for a full-time associate researcher position in the area of Atomic, Molecular, and Experimental Optical Physics, with a planned start date of August 1, 2025. The National Autonomous University of Mexico is one of the most prestigious learning and research institution in the Americas. The ICF is committed to attracting highly qualified individuals, as well as to broaden the diversity of its academic staff composition, as relevant conditions for scientific excellence and innovation. In this regard, a special call is made for female scientists and underrepresented groups in the physical sciences to participate in the process.
Job profile
The available position is located in the area of Atomic, Molecular, and Experimental Optical Physics, for which candidates are required to demonstrate competence in one or more of the following fields: Atomic and Molecular Physics, preferably in electron-molecule, ion-molecule, and photon-molecule interactions; low-temperature plasma physics; interactions of molecular beams with lasers and electrons; spectroscopic techniques; optical and acoustic traps; and/or multidisciplinary research involving atomic, molecular, plasma physics, and optics. This tenure track appointment at the University encompasses various academic responsibilities and institutional participation.
Therefore, it is expected that the chosen individual will:
- Conduct outstanding research in the area of this cal;
- Seek funding for their research;
- Advise undergraduate and graduate theses;
- Teach students at all levels of higher education;
- Participate in and, eventually, lead research projects in collaboration with;
- established research staff both inside and outside the Institute;
- Engage in institutional activities of the ICF, particularly those that contribute to strengthening its substantive functions, as well as its commitment to equality, nondiscrimination;
- and a violence-free environment.
Interested individuals must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a PhD in physical sciences or a related field;
- Demonstrate two years of postdoctoral experience;
- Have a proven track record of outstanding research in Atomic, Molecular, and Experimental Optical Physics;
- Meet the following age limit: be under 38 years and 11 months if female, or under 36 years and 11 months if male, as of the date of incorporation (August 1, 2025). This is a requirement of the subprogram for integrating young career academics at UNAM (SIJA).
Additionally, the following qualities will be considered highly desirable:
- Demonstrate international collaboration experience;
- Have a high degree of initiative and potential to manage national and international funding resources;
- Show interest in training and participating in activities related to equality, nondiscrimination, and a violence-free environment at the ICF.

- A research project on the indicated topics, to be completed in no more than 5 pages;
- A teaching proposal of no more than 2 pages;
