Let us introduce the role

AWE is currently recruiting for a Non-Ionising Radiation Protection Specialist for Defence Radiation Protection Services. The work covers all aspects of non-ionising radiation including: static and low frequency electromagnetic fields, radio frequency fields, incoherent artificial optical radiation and lasers.

This role is ideally suited to someone with experience of non-ionising radiation safety, preferably with a strong grounding in physics or other discipline with a strong physics content.

Working within Defence Radiation Protections Services, the successful candidate will be required to undertake frequent visits to customer facilities to perform safety assurance visits, measurements, attend meetings and deliver training. The successful candidate will also be required to provide technical leadership in areas such as training development and technical working groups.

In addition, you will support the development of non-ionising radiation protection policy and guidance at MOD-wide and service level, provide non-ionising radiation protection advice for complex exposure situations, design training and work with stakeholders across MOD to enhance non-ionising radiation safety for our armed forces.

Who are we looking for?

  • Laser safety - as a laser safety officer or laser protection adviser;
  • EMF safety - as an EMF safety officer or equivalent;
  • Delivering training courses / good presentation skills;
  • Excellent IT skills;
  • Report writing.

You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Some reasons we think you'll love it here:

AWE has wide range of benefits to suit you. These include:

  • 270 hours of annual leave;
