Senior Laser and Optical Scientist
Senior Optical Scientist (Laser and Optical Physics) based at Malvern or Farnborough
The Laser & Optical Physics team at QinetiQ Malvern/Farnborough are looking to add an enthusiastic and talented individual to their team of subject matter experts. Through your experience of laser and optical systems you will be actively involved in winning and delivering projects relating to high power lasers and novel optical systems and creating innovative solutions to our customers' needs.
Responsibilities would include:
- Bidding, planning and technical leadership of project work packages;
- Undertaking technical tasks relating to development of high power lasers and novel optical systems;
- Mentoring junior team members;
- Engaging with relevant stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds.
Requirements & Essential Qualifications
- First degree and 5+ years’ experience in a relevant field;
- A thorough understanding of laser and optical physics;
- Experience of designing and building optical systems;
- Experience engaging with stakeholders and presenting complex ideas with clarity;
- Experience in technical project planning and leadership.
- Experimental work with lasers including fibre lasers;
- Planning and running trials activities involving lasers;
- Familiarity with laser safety practices and risk assessment for experimental laser work;
- Optical design using Zemax OpticStudio;
- Data analysis and/or modelling using Matlab;
- Experiment control using LabVIEW;
- Working on MOD and commercial projects;
- Awareness of Systems Engineering practices.
