Job Details

Teacher of Physics or

Trainee Teacher of Physics

Full time

For 1 September 2022

The Godolphin and Latymer School is one of the country’s leading independent day schools for girls, located on a six acre site in Hammersmith, London.  The School’s facilities are excellent, making it an exciting place to learn and work.  The students at Godolphin and Latymer receive unrivalled academic and pastoral support and outstanding examination results are achieved.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and suitably qualified Teacher of Physics to join an enthusiastic and proactive department of six Physicists from 1 September 2022.

Subjects within the large and thriving Science Faculty are highly popular. We teach AQA Physics at A Level, Physics Higher and Standard Levels in the IB Diploma programme and IGCSE Edexcel.  There is a strong focus on skills development and independent learning.  Lessons are taught in a suite of modern and well-equipped laboratories by specialist teachers.

All staff members are expected to contribute to the thriving extra-curricular programme on offer at the school and all of our Physicists play an active role in the extra-curricular life of the department.  The students enjoy a wide range of activities, such as STEM week, CREST Awards, Physics and Engineering Society, STEM Club and school trips that include visits to CERN and NASA.

This vacancy offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced colleague looking to broaden their experience in a permanent and full time post.  The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Alternatively, we would welcome applications from experienced but unqualified teachers or new entrants to the profession, as the School runs a training scheme for unqualified graduates, enabling them to gain a PGCE, initially on a fixed term trainee teacher contract.  Please refer to the recruitment information booklet for full details.  Trainee teachers will be paid a minimum of £31,500, with training fees paid by the school.  Qualified teachers will be paid a minimum of £35,000.

Accommodation may be available for new staff in a local six-unit property.

For further information about our school and this role, please visit www.godolphinandlatymer.com.  Fully completed application forms should be returned to recruitment@godolphinandlatymer.com as soon as possible.  Please note that applications must be made on the school’s application form.  CVs alone will not be accepted.

There is no closing date for this vacancy.  Applications will be considered on receipt and interviews may occur at any stage.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and responsibility.  Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity.  As a teaching member of staff you will be working directly with, and be responsible for, the children that you teach. You are also likely to have contact with other pupils on a regular basis which may include specific pastoral or other responsibilities for pupils whom you do not teach.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

The Charity called The Godolphin and Latymer School (charity registration number 312699) is administered by The Godolphin and Latymer School Foundation, a charitable company limited by guarantee (Company number 3598439).

HMC/GSA 800 girls, 11-18 (220 in the Sixth Form).

Company

We are an academically selective day school for girls aged 11-18; girls sit 11+ entrance examinations and in the Sixth Form can choose to pursue the IB or A Level pathway. At Godolphin, girls freely exchange ideas and opinions and pursue leadership opportunities and positions of responsibility, without any perceived limits or stereotypes. Our pastoral care ensures that each individual girl is known and supported with initiatives that encourage risk-taking, resilience and a belief that nothing is beyond her reach or aspiration.

Girls shine as artists, actors, musicians, sportswomen, scientists, entrepreneurs, Arkwright Engineering Scholars, debaters, Gold DofE achievers, COP26 & 27 participants, Biology Olympiads, Green activists and community volunteers. Indeed, a culture of community service permeates the whole school and is underpinned by strong partnerships with local schools and community programmes. In 2018 we launched the Social Impact Awards to encourage students to develop their own sustainable Social Impact projects.

We nurture a caring, diverse and inclusive community and our means-tested bursary programme allows us to provide fee assistance for talented girls who otherwise wouldn’t be able to come to the school and who, in turn, enrich school life with their energy and inspiration.
