We have an exciting opportunity to join IOP Publishing’s ebooks team on a permanent basis as an Editorial Assistant.
The Editorial Assistant role is pivotal to achieving our ultimate aim of helping authors share their knowledge with the world. It is the ideal introduction to STM book publishing and central to the organisation as you will be working with colleagues in many departments to help ensure the smooth running of our books business.
The position also plays a vital role in ensuring excellent author service. Core responsibilities include author communications, checking manuscripts and permissions, managing contracts, supporting the peer review process, writing marketing texts, briefing cover designs and providing general support to the team.
Happy to work independently as well as within a team, you’ll be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and also be adaptable and quick to learn. You’ll have an eye for detail and will take a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of accuracy when entering data and in written and spoken correspondence.
Your drive for results will allow you to keep the progress of book proposals and manuscripts on track, taking the lead on the majority of author communications, and using your judgement to escalate issues when required.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
- A good general education, ideally degree educated or equivalent
- Advanced user of usual office technologies: MS Office and collaboration tools
- Excellent communication skills, both oral (including telephone) and written
- Excellent organisational, time and task management skills; methodical in approach
- Keen interest in STM publishing
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload
We know it is unusual for someone to tick every box so, if you don’t meet all the criteria, but demonstrate most of the skills and experience we are looking for, and have the enthusiasm to work with us, please go ahead and apply.
