Job Details

Thomas Keating Limited

is searching for a customer-facing Project Scientist / Project Manager

Thomas Keating Limited focuses on the design, development and manufacture of technologies for the detection and analysis of terahertz radiation – the “last frontier” in the electromagnetic spectrum. Our designs and hardware are found in cosmology, astronomy, atmospheric remote sensors, plasma fusion diagnostics, electron spin resonance, dynamic nuclear polarization, and mm-wave radar instruments.

Our products (many of which are bespoke) are used around the planet and in space, and are frequently designed in collaboration with customers in world-leading universities, research labs and space agencies. Thomas Keating Ltd. is a family run business that is over 220 years old.

Requirements

Experience or a strong interest in technical sales, which is part of this customer-facing role is essential.  You should have the 'push' needed to drive projects from initial interest from a client, though design and manufacture to delivery and acceptance of the project.

You will need a degree-level or higher qualification in physical science. You may not have had direct experience in our branch of science, although this is preferred but the most important qualities, we are looking for are enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. We particularly welcome applications from senior candidates with significant experience of the scientific instrument world.

We need you to be happy working as part of a team (within the company as well as with academic colleagues and customers) and be comfortable with demanding work, often working to deadlines. You will need to quickly take on significant responsibility for your work and have a desire to help the growth of our export-based activities. This includes having good interpersonal & presentational skills, both written and verbal, an interest in working with different cultures, and an ability to travel - being away from the UK for periods of up to two weeks (ability to drive, happy to take long-haul flights, etc.).

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in mm-wave/microwave/THz field and/or one or more of our primary markets: astronomy, cosmology, atmospheric remote sensing, plasma fusion diagnostics, electron spin resonance, car radar, and THz security systems.
  • Foreign language(s)
  • Technical writing experience.
  • Practical lab/hardware experience as this is a hands-on role, where in-house testing and in-person demonstrations to customers are important.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic and FEA software design and evaluation tools, such as HFSS, GRASP and ANSYS Mechanical, and of CAD-based design programs such as Creo Parametric.
  • Experience in MATLAB and data processing.

Our Offer

In return we can offer you variety in your day to day tasks and the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the design, development, manufacturing, testing and commissioning of novel scientific instruments. As part of a small company, you will have a chance to make an impact from the start.

We are offering a competitive starting salary (commensurate  on your skills and experience) with pension contribution, profit share, and generous holiday provision.  This is a full-time permanent position.months.

The position is based in our premises in Billingshurst, West Sussex.
