Job Details

We are looking to appoint a collaborative and customer-focused Associate Editor to join our team on a permanent basis.

The Associate Editor ensures that the peer review process across a number of journals is efficient and of high quality. Reporting to the Managing Editor, you will work within a team of Editors, Editorial Assistants and other Associate Editors. You’ll also interact with teams across the business, such as Journals Development and Marketing, as well as external stakeholders.

You’ll play a part in maintaining and improving the efficiency of the peer review service and the quality of the content in journals, and your role will have an impact on supporting the physics community.

This is a diverse role, which offers the opportunity to see cutting edge research, support customers through the publication process, and work with a variety of stakeholders.

What will you be doing?

Key job accountabilities:

  • Manage peer review on a number of titles within the portfolio;
  • Maintain peer review turnaround times and acceptance levels;
  • Contribute to continuous initiatives for increasing peer review efficiency and quality;
  • Work with different teams (such as Journals Development, Marketing and Journalism) to identify key articles for promotion and improve journal visibility.

About you:

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrable customer service skills;
  • Experience of communicating with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Strong team working skills;
  • Time management, planning and decision making skills;
  • University degree, ideally in a scientific subject;
  • Awareness of STM Publishing would be desirable, but it is not essential.

What we offer:

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer employees an excellent pension scheme (up to 12% company contribution), discretionary annual bonus scheme, 25+ days holiday, standard 35-hour working week, volunteering days, and a comprehensive benefits package including private medical insurance, life assurance, as well as a range of flexible benefits such as cycle to work scheme, discounted gym membership and healthcare cash plan.

Our modern and contemporary offices are based in the thriving city centre of Bristol, a stone’s throw away from Temple Meads train station, and within walking distance of Cabot Circus shopping centre, and numerous cafés and restaurants. Named on more than one occasion as the best city in the UK to live in, Bristol is a cosmopolitan and creative city boasting a historic harbour, internationally renowned cultural institutions and home to world-class festivals and events.

As there will not be a requirement for the person in this role to be in the office on a weekly basis, we are open to considering applicants from a wider geographical area who are happy to travel to Bristol for quarterly meetings, annual appraisals, one to one and team meetings, subject to business needs.

To apply, please submit your CV and cover note through our careers site.

We aim to review applications soon after they are received, and will arrange interviews in July.
