Full Professorship (W3) for Experimental Particle Physics

Job Details

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) for Experimental Particle Physics (Succession Prof. Gregor Herten) in the Department of Physics to be filled by October 1, 2023.

The professor should have an outstanding international reputation in the field of experimental particle physics and should extend the research topics at the institute into the field of flavour or neutrino physics. Teaching activities in the full range of experimental physics and in the subject-specific education of experimental particle physics are expected, as well as the supervision of bachelor, master and PhD theses.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

The faculty contributes to the curricula of many other faculties, most notably Computer Science, Microsystems Engineering, Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Geoscience.

The main areas of research at the Institute of Mathematics are: algebra, number theory, geometry, analysis, model theory, algorithmic logic, theory and numerics of partial differential equations, and, finally, stochastics and financial mathematics. The section for didactics of mathematics is a special teaching unit providing practical skills for teachers. The Institute of Mathematics hosts the DFG (German Research Foundation) research training group ‘Cohomological Methods in Geometry’.
