Post-doctoral Fellow for the ID32 soft X-ray Beamline

European Synchrotron Radiation Facility
Grenoble, France
Closing date
3 Dec 2022

Job Details

The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.

Supported by 21 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

You will participate in ongoing in-house research programmes, the running of the beamline and providing support to external users as a local contact. You will also develop your own research projects, which should exploit the unique capabilities of the ID32 beamline.

ID32 is a soft X-ray (400-1600eV) beamline with a scientific focus in the areas of electronic structure and magnetism. The beamline has two branches; one has been optimized for experiments using very high energy resolution soft X-ray resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS), with a state-of-the-art spectrometer and the other branch for soft X-ray absorption dichroism studies (e.g. X-ray Magnetic Circular dichroism (XMCD)) with a 9T superconducting high field magnet and surface science sample preparation facilities. Candidates interested in either, or both, of the ID32 branches are encouraged to apply.
