Awake Experiment At Cern Grade 7

£36,386 - £42,155 pa

The University of Liverpool is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the development of cutting-edge beam diagnostic techniques for the AWAKE experiment at CERN. You will carry out studies into the precise measurement of the transverse and longitudinal beam profile of the proton beam driver and the accelerated electron beam, as well as research into advanced beam emittance measurements techniques. Working with other members of the pan-European QUASAR Group, your research will be based on existing prototypes at the Cockcroft Institute’s *DITAlab*, and include measurement campaigns at international research centres such as Max IV in Sweden and CERN in Switzerland. You will also carry out underpinning simulation studies that will inform final monitor design and help optimize signal quality. You should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and a strong track record in beam diagnostics R&D, demonstrated for example through publications and initial project leadership. The working language of the international research team is English. The post will be available until 31 March 2025 years initially.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 37 from the date of their award.
