Unique combination of Physics and Medicine!

The International Max Planck Research School Physics and Medicine (IMPRS-PM) at the Max-Planck-Zentrum für Physik und Medizin (MPZPM) is a highly innovative new graduate program established in January 2022. IMPRS-PM educates and trains a new generation of scientists with insight into both physics and medical research.

In collaboration with the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), we offer MSc stipends and PhD positions.

The language of instruction and interaction of our structured graduate program is English. Knowledge of the German language is not required, but we offer German language classes at MPL and FAU.

Master’s applications are processed in two rounds with deadlines on January 15th and May 31st for the academic year starting in the following October. Decisions are communicated by March 1st and July 1st, respectively.

Students with a master’s degree who are interested in pursuing a PhD within IMPRS can apply and start at any time during the year.

IMPRS-PM is committed to recruiting outstanding students from diverse backgrounds and meeting them with openness and respect. We explicitly encourage female candidates to apply and welcome students from all over the world.

Company

The research at MPZPM focuses on the study of cells in the context of their microenvironment, the space that connects and encompasses a variety of cell types in a tissue.

MPZPM hosts a combination of tenured and nontenured principal investigators who cover various areas of research at the interface of physics and medicine. Until the move into the MPZPM building, the groups are housed at MPL (Guck, Sandoghdar, Singh), Dept. of Mathematics at FAU (Zaburdaev), Institute for Medical Technology, FAU (Franze) and Optical Imaging Center Erlangen (OICE, Dulin).
