Regulate a safer, greener future

About us

We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment. Acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife has never been more crucial, and it’s the overarching goal at the heart of everything we do. We’re responsible for regulating the disposal of radioactive waste across the whole of the nuclear industry in England, and our Regulators work with Nuclear Operators to ensure the highest levels of environmental protection are achieved.

About the role

As a Nuclear Regulator, you’ll be at the forefront of this work. From new builds to legacy waste, radiological monitoring and assessment to radiation incident management, you’ll work collaboratively with a team tackling multiple programmes and projects for the good of the environment.

You’ll undertake audits, inspections, and enforcements at nuclear sites, advising customers in the nuclear industry on the legislation we enforce and the standards we expect to see. Keeping radioactive and non-radioactive impact in mind at all times, you’ll assist with the Generic Design Assessment of proposed construction projects, acting as a key point of contact for site staff and stakeholders.

About you

An established professional educated to degree level in a relevant subject, you’ll have experience working within the nuclear industry or of regulating nuclear sites. With excellent knowledge of the nuclear sector and modern environmental challenges and issues, you’ll be capable of managing a programme of work to achieve results.

On a personal level, you’ll be an effective communicator with honed influencing skills and a passion for environmental issues. The work we do increases access to nature, tackles climate change head on, and keeps the public safe. It also sets careers on unstoppable trajectories. Join us, and get excellent benefits, unrivalled career development opportunities, and a team dedicated to putting the planet first.

Company

We were established in 1996 to protect and improve the environment. We have around 10,600 employees. Our head office is in Bristol and we have another office in London. We have offices across England, divided into 14 areas.
