We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Publisher, Community Journals to join our Publishing team on a permanent basis. If you’re looking for the next step in your Publishing career, then look no further!

Role Overview

The Senior Publisher, Community Journals is responsible for the performance and day-to-day management of a portfolio of journals, managing and motivating the Publishing team, overseeing commissioning and managing resources and budgets. 

What will you be doing?
Key job accountabilities include:

  • Responsibility for the day-to-day management of a portfolio of journals

- Develop a portfolio strategy in line with market trends and business strategy and work with AD to identify new launch opportunities in line with this strategy;

- Keep the AD informed on the progress of the portfolio and journals against relevant targets and plans, and support AD in some ad hoc tasks;

  • Managing and motivating a Community Journal portfolio team

- Provide effective line management of the Publishers, Associate Publishers and Assistant Publisher within the portfolio;

- Act as publishing expert for the portfolio and as the escalation point for the team for issues which require complex resolution;

- Develop and mentor direct reports and develop talent within the portfolio and across Journals Development, in conjunction with the other Senior Publishers;

- Deputise for the Associate Director, Journals Management;

  • Implement the development strategies for the portfolio

- Ensure the team understands the commissioning strategies for the portfolio and titles and that team’s commissioning activities are adapted in line with journal and portfolio YTD performance;

- As a commissioning expert, ensure that departmental commissioning processes are adhered to and troubleshoot commissioning issues with alternative solutions and tactics;

- Develop and manage the portfolio’s Editorial Boards in line with journal strategic and operational requirements, and overarching diversity and inclusion goals;

  • Supporting projects and growth across Publishing Development, delivering other key Publishing Development projects as agreed with Associate Director;

About you:

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Educated to degree level (a Science degree is desirable);
  • People management experience;
  • Project management experience;
  • 5-10 years experience in analytical skills in the STM Publishing industry;
  • Previous strategic experience;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Fluent in both Mandarin and English;
  • A collaborative approach to team management and working with peers.
