Salary: £39,748 to £44,166 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £4000 per annum is also available for this role.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Scientific Computing Department is uniquely placed in the UK providing advanced computing for advanced science. STFC is a world-leading multi-disciplinary science organisation, and SCD provides leading edge compute and data storage infrastructure to support the work of world class science both within STFC, the UK and internationally; contributing to the solution of grand research challenges.
We have an excellent opportunity for a DevOps Engineer to come and work in the DAFNI (Data and Analytics for National Infrastructure) team delivering operational and developer support. In this post you will take a leading role in determining the future technical direction of the platform. We are a small, friendly, and ambitious team of developers supporting the extensive capability that DAFNI provides. You will work closely within the team and use your expertise to bring efficient, cutting-edge solutions to the operational challenges that the platform faces.
The DAFNI platform is built for the UK academic community and is a tool which allows researchers to upload, share and run their analytical models together in collaborative workflows. DAFNI is a domain-agnostic tool, which makes use of Docker, Kubernetes and other cloud-native technologies to support the broadest possible range of scientific users.
- Working knowledge of managing Linux operating systems in production;
- Experience working with Kubernetes or a similar container orchestration platform;
- Working knowledge configuration management using for example Puppet/Chef/Ansible;
- Use of container management tool such as Docker;
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed to make informed decisions on the platform;
- Ability to work closely with team members and senior leadership.
