Position Outline:

We are seeking a Graduate Test Engineer direct from university or with 1-3 years of experience. This position offers the opportunity to further develop your engineering skills within a stimulating environment while engaging with a dedicated and professional team. Drive, enthusiasm, and the desire to succeed within a dynamic team environment are essential for this role. Working alongside experienced engineers you will be involved in multiple products & technologies with responsibility for the development of production test solutions using a variety of techniques.

Personal Specification:

We are seeking a high calibre candidate who is highly motivated, creative and versatile. The Graduate Test Engineer will be responsible for developing precision optical test solutions to maintain Qioptiq’s position as the leader in the design and manufacture of advanced dismounted soldier systems.

It is desirable that candidates demonstrate the following:

  • An education to at least first degree level, preferably in Physics / Optical Engineering;
  • A technical background with strong analytical skills and practical ability;
  • Knowledge of optical imaging systems;
  • A very strong set of PC skills – including programming using Python and Excel Macros;
  • The ability to interface hardware with PCs;
  • Ability to communicate and feedback with all departments;
  • Strong attention to detail and good inter-personal skills;
  • The ability to work within dynamic project teams and using structured problem solving techniques;
  • The ability to liaise with other engineering disciplines on product specifications / performance matters.

Key Responsibilities:

The main duties with this position will include:

  • Define the manner in which products are tested to ensure they meet the customer requirements;
  • Specify, design, develop and commission Test Equipment to ensure that Qioptiq products are tested in an efficient and cost-effective manner;
  • Define and perform First Article tests and qualification activities to demonstrate that designs meet required specifications;
  • Produce documentation to define and control the test process;
  • Maintain an awareness of current test techniques.
