Pay Range

$21.40 - $29.00 Hourly

This position is under a step structure. Please note that the step placement is determined by your most recent completed academic year.

Job Description

We have multiple openings for undergraduate students to join the Cyber & Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI) and to work on topics related to critical infrastructure security and resilience that align with LLNL’s national security missions. The 2023 CSI program will run during the summer with flexible dates between May 1, 2023, and September 30, 2023. CSI is designed to provide selected candidates an opportunity to apply the skills they have acquired to projects in areas of national importance. The program will include opportunities to participate in CTF-style challenges, infrastructure case studies, network with fellow interns and lab employees, and learn more about work going on at LLNL.

In this role, you will

  • Provide technical and/or research support to projects in the areas of cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and other related fields working with scientists, engineers, and technical staff members.
  • Support development, testing, and documentation of Laboratory methodologies and capabilities.
  • Conduct research in assigned area under close direction and supervision.
  • Perform technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide technical support to scientists in scientific research and development projects.
  • Attend relevant on-site seminars and training classes (at least one per week).
  • Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering or other related fields.
  • Ability to apply basic problem-solving techniques and/or analytical principles to solve technical problems.
  • Demonstrated academic achievement in scientific or engineering curriculum.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to solve technical problems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated exposure through coursework or relevant experience to some of the following topics: Risk Analysis; Infrastructure Modeling; Infrastructure Simulation; Data Analysis; Interdisciplinary Research; Systems Engineering; Decomposition.


Desired Qualifications

  • GPA of 3.0 or above.

Security Clearance
