About the Role:

We are seeking an organised and efficient team player to join our ebooks team and play a vital role in ensuring excellent author service.

Happy to work independently as well as within a team, you’ll be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and also be adaptable and quick to learn. You’ll have an eye for detail and will take a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of accuracy when entering data and in written and spoken correspondence.

Your drive for results will allow you to keep the progress of book proposals and manuscripts on track, taking the lead on the majority of author communications, and using your judgement to escalate issues when required.

About you:

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A good general education, ideally degree educated or equivalent
  • Advanced user of usual office technologies: MS Office and collaboration tools. Excellent communication skills, both oral (including telephone) and written
  • Excellent organisational, time and task management skills; methodical in approach
  • Keen interest in STM publishing and/or ebooks
  • Experience of supporting / managing the peer review process
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload

Previous experience in using a database or in customer service will be an advantage, however full training will be provided.

About the benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary and bonus scheme, we offer employees a comprehensive benefits package including an excellent pension scheme, discretionary annual bonus scheme, life assurance and generous annual leave, and a range of flexible benefits including childcare vouchers and gym membership.

Our modern and contemporary offices are based in the thriving city centre of Bristol, a stone’s throw away from Temple Meads train station, and within walking distance of Cabot Circus shopping centre, and numerous cafés and restaurants. Named on more than one occasion as the best city in the UK to live in, Bristol is a cosmopolitan and creative city boasting a historic harbour, internationally renowned cultural institutions and home to world-class festivals and events.

The contractual location of this role is from our Bristol office, but most employees are continuing to work from home until later this year, and in future we will be moving to a more dynamic and blended combination of office and remote working.

To apply:

To apply please submit your CV and covering note through our careers site, highlighting why you would be suitable for the role, and why you are interested in this opportunity and IOP Publishing.

About us:

Our rapidly expanding journals programme is published alongside other sources of scientific information in the form of eBooks, magazines and conference proceedings. IOP Publishing is central to the Institute of Physics, a not-for-profit society. Any financial surplus earned by IOP Publishing goes to supporting science through the activities of the Institute. With a continuing focus on growth, we recognise that every single person has a real part to play if we’re to achieve our aim of becoming the world’s leading publisher in our field.

We are seeking a diverse range of candidates and particularly welcome applicants from under-represented backgrounds.

While we employ specialists in a range of fields, all our employees share a number of qualities and attributes: our people are professional and dedicated, talented and energetic. They work collaboratively to help us expand in a rapidly changing scientific landscape.

The IOP Publishing culture is one of growth, learning and innovation, and we are looking for people who want to develop, innovate and succeed; people who see the exciting opportunities that digital publishing has to offer.
