Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Accelerator Science, Grade 7

£36,386 - £42,155 pa

The University of Liverpool is seeking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to work on research and development into gas jet-based beam monitors for medical applications. You will contribute to the development of cutting-edge beam monitors used as in-vivo dosimetry systems used in both, conventional proton cancer treatment facilities, as well as novel plasma accelerator-based facilities. Your research will be based on existing prototype setups at the Cockcroft Institute’s *DITAlab*, and include measurement campaigns at clinical and research facilities in the UK and abroad. You will also carry out underpinning simulation studies into gas jet format, shaping and image optimization. You should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and a strong track record in beam diagnostics R&D, demonstrated for example through publications and initial project leadership. The working language of the international research team is English. The post will be available until 31 May 2025 initially.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.  Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
