About the Role

NPL is looking for a full-time Higher Research Engineer in Teddington, and the role comes with an attractive salary and benefits package.   • Developing partnerships to further NPL's capability – as an expert in your field, we'll seek your technical support for bids
  • Enabling commercial opportunities by helping to develop new products and services
  • Acting as an ambassador for NPL's work externally and promoting what we do

About You

If you have a background in science and research, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. NPL is seeking talented Scientists/Engineers to join our vibrant team that is establishing and growing the UK’s compact atomic clocks industry. This full-time role is based in Teddington.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of our collaborative and highly skilled Atomic Clocks and Sensors (ACS) group seeking to train and develop truly passionate scientists and engineers. As part of this team, you will help develop state-of-the-art atomic clock systems and subsystem prototypes at NPL that are fit for production and commercialisation.

Requirements of this laboratory role include:

  • Highly ambitious and eager to learn about compact atomic clock systems
  • Good understanding of one or more of the following: electronics design, laser physics, atomic physics, embedded software programming, systems engineering.
  • A demonstrative drive to expand capabilities, services and products through an instinctive commercial awareness
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

To succeed in this role, it is also desirable that you be educated to a PhD level in engineering/physics or a related subject. In addition, experience in the atomic clocks industry and/or knowledge of the various types of commercial atomic clocks and their applications is also advantageous.
