We are looking to appoint a collaborative and customer-focused Associate Director, Partner Publishing with exceptional leadership skills and commercial acumen, to lead the strategic development and tactical support of IOP Publishing’s (IOPP) partner portfolio.

Role Overview

The Associate Director, Partner Publishing is responsible for the strategic development and tactical support of IOP Publishing’s (IOPP) partner portfolio, including joint-owned and fully partner-owned titles.

Reporting to the Head of Journals Development, the Associate Director, Partner Publishing leads  the Partner Publishing team and will have responsibility for IOPP’s global partnership strategy. They will collaborate with Senior Managers across the organisation and form a close working relationship with the Associate  Director, APAC. This is a high profile role within the organisation due to the significant contributions our partnerships deliver towards the success of the business.  This role provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and exert their leadership skills whilst exercising their commercial acumen to make a tangible impact to IOPP.

What will you be doing?

Key job accountabilities:

  • Define, own and execute the vision and strategy for IOPP as a partner publisher in an open science world;
  • Ensure that the IOPP value proposition is clear to partners and that we deliver a high quality partnership offering;
  • Oversee the management of partner relationships, collaborate with partners on future journal strategies, and optimise partner commercial returns and the partner bid and renewal process;
  • Create a positive and enthusiastic team environment in which your team feels engaged and understands what is expected of them, and the value of their contribution to the business;
  • Contribute actively to the senior publishing management team to develop, agree and communicate the strategic narratives that will guide and inspire the entire Publishing directorate.

About you:

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • A deep understanding of the STM research process, communities and ecosystem and a desire to contribute to the global research endeavour;
  • Significant experience in society publishing, and a successful track record of  developing journal portfolio with society partners, winning and renewing  society contracts;
  • A collaborative mindset, with proven ability to engage, manage and influence internal and external stakeholders, working across cultures and geographies;
  • Experienced line-manager with well-developed leadership skills;
  • Clear thinking, business acumen and a proven ability to persuade, negotiate and drive change.

The role can be based out of our UK office in Bristol or US office in Philadelphia (with a blend of office and remote working), or remotely within the UK or US. Occasional visits to both offices will be required, regardless of location. International travel will also be required as part of the role.
