The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.
Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.
Supported by 22 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.
Context & Job Description
You will participate in the operation of the beamline, ongoing in-house research programmes, provide support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research programme. Together with the beamline scientists, you will be required to participate in the development of data analysis methods and sample environments specific to the beamline.
ID02 is an upgraded high resolution SAXS/WAXS/USAXS/XPCS instrument featuring a 34 m detector tube combined with state-of-the-art detectors. This beamline is primarily dedicated to soft matter science and related areas of biophysics. Current in-house research topics include dynamics of spontaneous self-assembly processes in amphiphilic systems, the emergence of complexity in active matter, and the interplay between microstructure and rheology in complex fluids. These programmes involve time-resolved investigations combined with a variety of techniques such as rapid mixing, rheology, etc. and advanced data analysis.
Further information may be obtained from Dr. T. Narayanan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
- PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Biophysics or a closely related subject obtained less than 3 years ago
- Some experience in applying scattering techniques (X-ray or light or neutron scattering) to study soft matter or related systems
- Basic knowledge of scattering data modelling is essential
- Strong aptitude for instrumentation and data analysis
- Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users
- Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)
We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your quality of life and your installation in the Grenoble area when relocation is needed.
