AWE is currently recruiting for Computational Scientists to support customer requirements and where appropriate, provide first line support for customer queries. You will be required to design and develop system/application software supporting libraries and tools.


Location - Reading area

Package - £33,300 - c£44,000pa (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

This is an exciting role where you can showcase your ability to support multiple projects using your programming and computational techniques experience.


You will be responsible for the following:

  • Research, investigation and production of techniques and solutions to multi-physics problems
  • Supporting research and development which has a direct impact at the level of the technical specialism
  • Providing appropriate assistance to customers to resolve technical problems/queries
  • Testing, installation and maintenance of software
  • Production of suitable technical documentation (change control, reports, presentations)
  • Actively participate in collaboration activities with external peers (International Peers/Industry/Academia)


Whilst not considered a check list, we are interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate some of the following:

  • A Degree in a scientific or STEM discipline, equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or equivalent experience
  • A clear and concise communication approach, both oral and written
  • The ability to capture and communicate technical requirements effectively
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to integrate and work well in a team and support technical lead in projects
  • Ability to research and self-learn new physics areas, computational techniques, and code development practices
  • The ability to programme in C, C++, Fortran or a similar high-level language  
  • Experience of working in Unix/Linux environment
  • Experience in developing and applying mathematical models to complex physics


Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
